“I remember one day talking with him in his office. We were chatting about John Coltrane and Miles Davis… it was the day I decided this was all I wanted in life. To be around music. To play music. Nothing else.”
Former Student – George Stevens Academy – Class of 1997
Describe how music has impacted your life.
Music is my life. I knew that’s what I wanted to do when I was 12 years old. I’ve been lucky enough to do it ever since. After the amazing education from GSA, I got accepted to Berklee College of Music. I then became an audio engineer and producer. I worked at studios in Boston and had the great opportunity to work on a #1 album that got me out to LA. I now live in LA, mixing records. I have worked with a ton of fantastic artist, including Kelly Clarkson and A$AP Rocky. Mr. O is a huge reason why I am where I am today.
Describe your connection to Mr. O
Mr. O changed my life. He introduced me to Jazz. He showed me how to love music like nothing else in the world. He gave me confidence in something when I didn’t have much faith in my ability to play sports or do well in academics. He is in my top 3 list of people who changed my life. I love that man. 🙂
Describe Mr. O in three words.
Professional Life Changer
What is your most memorable story involving Mr. O?
It’s rather vague. But I remember one day talking with him in his office. We were chatting about John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Train was Mr. O’s favorite. I remember that day for some reason – it was the day I decided this was all I wanted in life. To be around music. To play music. Nothing else.
If you could ask Mr. O any question, what would it be?
Did you know that I was skipping class when you would let me sneak in the band room and pracitice? Or did you really think I was in study hall?
