Describe how music has impacted your life.
Music has been a huge impact on my life from when I was little until now. I picked up trombone in third grade, and drums in middle school. I am really fortunate to have grown up with so much music around me. I continue to learn what music means to me and how I can express myself through it. It causes the strongest of emotions and when added to something gives it so much more intent and meaning. I’m really fortunate to have the opportunity to learn the technique to create it. One more thing about music is that it’s an opportunity to connect with other people and make something together as you play. It’s like a game, but it’s also so much more meaningful. I now study jazz performance at University of Southern Maine, and I hope to continue my education in it and become part of a network of musicians so I can continue to play.

What is your most memorable story involving Mr. O?
A story that comes to mind is when I got to be part of a really great combo, my junior year and we came in 2nd place at the Berkelee Jazz Festival. It was a total surprise and I just remember we were in the balcony, but Mr. O was on the first floor and when he made it to us he had been crying and told us he hugged a random woman at the elevator because he was so happy. That was a special moment, but it was made so much better by the fact that our director was Mr. O haha.
If you could ask Mr. O any question, what would it be?
How do you get up at 4am and retain the energy of a small child all day?
Favorite Mr. O quote or phrase:
“Sugar Frosted Flakes!!”
